促進主流對華裔的了解與認可

要求美國頒發金獎給華裔老兵

    一樣是亞裔美國人，曾經參與二次世界大戰的日裔、菲裔美軍退伍軍人，都曾得到美國國會的認可、稱頌﹔可是為何華裔美軍卻還沒有得到同樣的認可與榮耀﹖

美國同源會（Chinese American Citizens Aliance, CACA，www.cacanationan.org, 創立於西元1895年）的“二戰華裔美軍榮耀專案”（Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project）將舉辦影片放映會，放映“責任與榮耀﹕在密西西比三角洲的華人”（“Honor and Duty: The Mississippi Delta Chinese”），並由馬州參議員李鳳遷(MD State Senator Susan Lee, D-16)與馬州眾議員林立圖(MD State Delegate Clarence Lam, D-12)作講評。同時，議員們也將說明他們將在馬州議會提出一個決議案，來認可二戰華裔美軍對捍衛世界和平、維護民主法制的貢獻。

影片放映講評將於二月十四日（星期二）下午五點，在馬州眾議會辦公大樓(Lowe & Taylor House, 6 Bladen Street, Annapolis, MD), #170室舉行。

“二戰華裔美軍榮耀專案”是美國歷史最悠久的華裔人權團體––同源會全國總會的一個專案，目的是透過推廣、保存與教育，來認可、榮耀曾經參與二次世界戰的華裔美軍的貢獻﹔目前正在遊說美國國會，希望國會能頒發國會金獎（Congressional Gold Medal）給這些勞苦功高的二戰華裔美國老兵。

Washington, D.C. – The Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project is pleased to announce a screening of the film Honor and Duty: The Mississippi Delta Chinese. The screening will be followed by comments from Senator Susan Lee (D-Montgomery) and Delegate Clarence Lam (D-Howard and Baltimore counties) about a Resolution recognizing Chinese Americans from Maryland for their contributions during the Second World War. The lawmakers’ comments will be followed by a conversation with the filmmaker, SamanthaCheng.

The Recognition Project is a program of the National C.A.C.A. (Chinese American Citizens Alliance, www.cacanational.org) Community Involvement Fund, a 501c3 organization. Its mission is to recognize, honor and celebrate the military service of Chinese Americans who fought in the Second World War through advocacy, education and preservation and is currently advocating the 115^th Congress to award them a Congressional Gold Medal.

Maryland State Senator Susan Lee (D-Montgomery) and Maryland State Delegate Clarence Lam (D-Howard and Baltimore counties) will be available for comment on the Resolution to be presented in Chambers to recognize, honor and celebrate the military service of Chinese American from the State of Maryland during the Second World War.

Honor and Duty: The Mississippi Delta Chinese is three-part documentary series (71 minutes) that tells the story of an almost forgotten community of Chinese in America's Deep South. This unique story shows how Chinese families built an enduring kinship and friendship through small town markets and grocery stores in the segregated South. It draws in part on the memories of the patriotic Chinese WWII veterans who lived in the area and stepped forward to serve in WWII and the families and community that supported them.

Part One (1870 to 1940), tells how the Chinese came to Mississippi in the 19th century and the challenges of coming to the United States. In Part Two (1941-1945), 24 Delta Chinese WWII veterans and their families share stories of the war and its impact on their lives in the Mississippi Delta. Part Three (1946 to the present), focuses on how the Delta Chinese have influenced the social and economic fabric, customs and culture of Mississippi. 

The film’s Producer and Director, E. Samantha Cheng will be available on site after the film screening to answer questions. Ms. Cheng is also the Program Director of the Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project and is currently leading the advocacy effort in the United States Congress to recognize, honor and celebrate the military service of Chinese Americans who fought in WWII with a Congressional Gold Medal.
