Rain Totals
Since Monday, some areas have received nearly 10 inches of rain, flooding basements and roads.
Here are some of the unofficial rain totals:
Columbia, Md: 9.89 inches
Bowie, Md.: 8.08 inches
Upper Marlboro, Md.: 7.39 inches
Waldorf, Md.: 7.02 inches
Chevy Chase, Md.: 6.23 inches
Arlington, Va.: 5.91 inches
Woodbridge, Va.: 5.82 inches
Washington, D.C. at Children's Hospital: 5.6 inches
Many roads are shutdown because of flooding or high water. Prince George's County has been particularly hard hit.
In Largo, the Southwest Branch stream rushed over its banks, flooding some streets. The water in some areas is car-tire high.
Prince George's County roads closed
In Prince George's County, the following roads are closed:

Montgomery County roads
The following Montgomery County roads are closed due to high water:
Beach Drive is closed between Knowles Avenue and Stoneybrook Road and between East-West Highway and Porter Street, NW.
Annapolis Dam opened
In Annapolis, crews opened the Annapolis Dam valve to its capacity about midnight when flash flooding became a possibility.
The water rose to 25.6 feet, causing the dam to overflow at 3 a.m. The top of the dam is 25.2 feet.

The following roads are closed in Charles County:

Route 301 southbound lane, Glen Albin Rd. to Dist. 1 Sheriff's Station in La Plata
County officials say multiple county roads have high water or hazardous conditions and are impassable. You are asked to stay off the roads. To report a hazardous road condition, contact the Charles County Department of Public Works, Roads Division, at 301-932-3440.
In Charles County, there's a water main break that has disrupted service to Cliffton on the Potomac. Bottled water is available to residents at Cliffton Well, 9980 Cliffton Drive. The Charles County Department of Public Works, Utilities Division, is working to restore water service in this area.
Howard County roads closed
The following Howard County roads are closed:
Old Columbia Road at Middle Patuxent River
Furnace Ave. At County Line (Probably closed all day)
Stephens Road
South Entrance Road at Route 29 (Water down but road covered with debris, needs to be cleared)
Woodland Road (from middle of road off of Old Annapolis Road to Centennial Park entrance) (Water down but still impassable)
Brighton Dam Road at County Line

Other Road problems
Here are some of the areas where problems have been reported:
Arlington - Washington Blvd. between George Mason Drive and Harrison Street shut down due to a large tree down and wires.
Brookeville: Route 97 at Gregg Road (south of New Hampshire Avenue) - closed - flooding.
Beltsville : Route 1 at Ritz Way - high water, but one lane is open.
Bowie: Mount Oak Road is closed at Nottinghill Drive - flooding (at the bus lot).
Water Street north of Pennsylvania Avenue closed in Upper Marlboro.
U.S. 301 at Port Tobacco Road southbound in La Plata closed. Southbound is blocked from Glen Albin Road District 1 Sheriff's Station because the right shoulder of the road is washed out.
Route 214 closed between between Pike Ridge Road and Solomons Island Road. |
