CBRE has a strong tie with Chinese commercial real-estate companies. For example, CBRE provided advisory service formarketing of Beijing’s World Trade Center in1988; it served as broker for Fuson International Ltd (Shanghai) when buying One Chase Manhattan Plaza (NYC) in 2013. Mr. David Brickman and Mr. Mitchell Kiffe will provide an overview of multifamily (apartment)/commercial real-estate markets and discuss the current state of the real-estate capital markets, property market fundamentals, and capital flows. They will also highlight the increasing importance of rental housing in the U.S. housing market and the role of GSEs/brokers/servicers in providing liquidity and stability to the commercial real-estate markets. Brickman Bio David Brickman is the executive vice president for the Multifamily Business. As head of Multifamily, Brickman is responsible for leading all aspects of Freddie Mac’s Multifamily business line, which includes the flow mortgage, structured and affordable mortgage, CMBS and low-income housing tax credit portfolios. He is a member of the company’s senior operating committee and reports directly to CEO Don Layton. Prior to this he was the vice president in charge of the Multifamily Capital Markets department in the Multifamily Division at Freddie Mac. In this position, Brickman was responsible for all functions relating to Freddie Mac’s multifamily and CMBS investment and capital market activities. He is also the key architect behind several of Freddie Mac’s innovative multifamily financing products, including the Capital Markets Execution and K-deal securitization program, Freddie Mac’s Reference Bill ARM, the fixed-to-float suite of products and the Performance-Based PC, for which he is the holder of a US Patent. Prior to joining Freddie Mac in 1999, Brickman co-led the Mortgage Finance and Credit Analysis group in the consulting practice at Price Waterhouse Coopers. Brickman has completed all doctoral coursework for his Ph.D. in economics and real estate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and has been a Professorial Lecturer in Finance at George Washington University and an Adjunct Professor of Finance at Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Mitchell Kiffe Bio: Mitchell W. Kiffe joined CB Richard Ellis (A.K.A CBRE) Capital Markets in May 2010 and is currently Co-Head of National Production for the Debt & Equity Finance Group within CBRE Capital Markets. Along with the other Co-Head of Production, Mike Riccio, he is responsible for business development, origination results and assists in the management of a 30 office production network. Given his extensive experience in multifamily finance, he is responsible for multifamily mortgage originations nationwide. This includes Agencies (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA), as well as Life Insurance Companies, Conduits, Banks and other capital providers. He has significant relationship management responsibilities with respect to the Agencies and other Lenders, in addition to his relationship management activity with major national and regional clients. He also is a member of the CBRE Capital Markets Fannie Mae DUS Loan Committee. Mr. Kiffe spent over 17 years with Freddie Mac between 1992 and 2010 in various leadership, production and credit roles. During his tenure as head of production, loan purchase volume increased from $1.7 billion in 1997 to $19.0 billion in 2008. In total, he has been responsible for over $120 billion of multifamily mortgage production. He also led Freddie Mac’s expansion into: Seniors Housing, Student Housing, Tax-Exempt Bond Credit Enhancements, Structured Transactions, and Credit Facilities. He also was responsible for maintaining the Program Plus Seller/Servicer network nationwide. Freddie Mac’s four regional offices reported to Mr. Kiffe, as did the Seniors Housing and Structured Transactions business units. Before joining Freddie Mac, Mr. Kiffe spent approximately ten years at GMAC Mortgage Corporation and Norwest Mortgage, Inc. in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He spent his entire career at GMAC/Norwest involved in commercial real estate lending and mortgage banking, most recently as a Senior Vice President.For five years prior to Norwest, Mr. Kiffe also worked in Minneapolis as an attorney specializing in commercial real estate for the law firm of Moss & Barnett, P.A. and the general contracting and engineering firm of Ibberson, Inc.
