大华府地区最大华人中心即将成立5月14日, 大华府华人中心董事会主席蒯文明先生在马州罗城新闻发布会上宣布, 大华府华人中心将于2016年6月11日举行正式成立庆祝大会及募捐大会。 庆祝及募捐活动由义工筹办, 将在马里兰州盖城和维吉尼亚州麦克利恩同时举行。 届时将有华府地区的几百名文化艺术人士及爱好者在下午三点至十点的文化节活动中登台义演。其间华人中心董事会成员将介绍中心的组织结构和接受大众监督的机制。届时还将以多媒体方式展示华人中心的两个概念设计方案,公布选址条件,以便华府地区的房地产经纪人共同努力选地。 15万多华人生活在大华府地区,多年来一直梦想能有一个自己的活动中心。从事信息技术工作的华人社区领袖蒯文明说:“我自从15年前搬到北维州以来,一直等待有人领导建立一个华府华人中心。后来我认识到,我如果不站出来,恐怕永远看不到这个中心。”蒯文明先生希望能有一个多功能一流设施的场所作为当地的华人之家, 同时可以作为华人社区发展的平台以及文化融合的桥梁。自从蒯先生2015年10月宣布计划以来,华府华人中心得到15个社团组织, 以及马里兰州议员Dr. Clarence Lam 的背书支持。华府华人中心的董事会已受邀5月17日在马里兰州亚太裔事务委员会上发言。建立中心的计划还得到数百华府华人的热情响应,纷纷献计献策,争当义工,为实现大家共同的梦想贡献力量。 大华府资深媒体人、ACM总编辑孙殿涛说:“我发现这些华人正在做一件华府前所未有的惊天动地的大事!华府华人中心的庆祝大会必将成为对当地华人具有重大历史意义的活动。我们都将给予支持。” Greater Washington Area’s Largest Chinese Community Center to Launch Rockville, MD – The Chinese CommunityCenter of Greater Washington (CCC-GW) will celebrate its launch with aninaugural fundraising gala on June 11th, 2016, announced Mr. Wenming Kuai,Chairman of the Board of CCC-GW at the Center’s news conference in downtown Rockville.
Two galas will take placeconcurrently in Gaithersburg, Maryland and Mclean, Virginia. Both organized by community volunteers, each location will feature a cultural festival from 3 to 10p.m. with theperformance by more than one hundred local artists. Additionally, theCCC-GW board members will deliver a multimediapresentation that provides an insider’s lookon the planning and development of the center.Two conceptual designs for the community center will be unveiled through ananimated video, and site selection criteriawill be announced for local realtors to start the selection process.
Morethan 151, 000Chinese live and work in metropolitan D.C. and the community has dreamed of acommunity center for many years. “For 15 years since I moved to NorthernVirginia, I have been waiting for someone to lead the effort (of building aChinese community center), until I realized that if I do not do it now, I mightnever see it,” said Mr. Kuai. An IT professionaland well respected community leader, Mr. Kuai had a vision of a state-of-the-artmultifunctional facility that local Chinese can call home. It will serve as aplatform for community building and a bridge for culture integration. Since Mr. Kuai announced this initiative inOctober 2015, CCC-GW has received endorsements from 15 community organizationsand Dr. Clarence Lam, Maryland State Delegate. The board of directors has been invitedto speak to the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairson May, 17th. More importantly, several hundreds of community membershave responded with enthusiasm and volunteered their time and talent to maketheir shared dream come true.
